Summary Hamilton High School is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead our Speech and Debate program for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will foster a supportive and engaging environment for students to develop their public speaking, critical thinking, and argumentation skills. This seasonal position requires a commitment to mentoring students, organizing practices and competitions, and promoting a culture of excellence within the team. Responsibilities - Organize and conduct regular practice sessions, ensuring all team members receive personalized coaching and feedback. - Prepare students for local, regional, and national competitions, including overseeing registration and logistics. - Foster a team-oriented atmosphere that encourages collaboration, respect, and sportsmanship among team members. - Communicate regularly with students, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and performance. - Stay current with developments in speech and debate, including rules, formats, and best practices. - Collaborate with other faculty and staff to integrate speech and debate skills into the broader educational experience. - Mentor and support students in developing their individual speaking and debating styles, while providing constructive criticism to enhance their performance. - Manage team budget, fundraising efforts, and any necessary equipment or materials for practices and competitions. - Attend all relevant meetings, events, and competitions as required. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, or a related field preferred. - Previous coaching experience in speech and debate or a related extracurricular activity. - Strong understanding of speech and debate formats, rules, and strategies. - Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. - Ability to inspire and motivate students of varying skill levels. - Availability to work evenings and weekends during the competition season. - Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with students, parents, and staff. - First Aid/CPR certification. - Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse team environment. - Ability to pass a fingerprint-based background check per School Board policy.
