Berkley Middle School Robotics Coach
Calendar:
September 2026 - March 2027
Hours:
Approximately 3-5x per week (6-10 hours/week) after school. In season will be September-December (meets 2x/week) plus one weekend competition and out of season will be January through March (meets 1x/week).
Stipend
: $1500 per season, paid in April 2027
Position Summary:
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and knowledgeable Robotics Coach to lead our middle school FIRST Robotics Club offered to 6th-8th Grade students at Anderson and Norup International. This is an after school position ideal for individuals who are passionate about STEM, mentorship, and project-based learning. Whether you're an educator, engineer, college student, or robotics enthusiast, this is a chance to help students develop technical skills, confidence, and teamwork through real-world challenges and competition.
Meeting Location and Time
: The Den from approximately 4:00-6:00 pm (flexible).
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as coach and mentor to middle school robotics students
Coordinate and facilitate afterschool build sessions and team meetings
Guide students through engineering design, programming, project management, and problem-solving
Promote student leadership and collaboration
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students
Communicate with students, families, school staff, and FIRST representatives
Supervise and support the team at local competitions
Manage administrative tasks, including registration, budgeting, and equipment planning
Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for working with students and a commitment to student growth and empowerment
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfort with tools and a general understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
Familiarity with programming (Java preferred), CAD or design tools, 3D printing, or CNC (preferred but not required)
Experience with FIRST Robotics or similar programs is a plus
Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs), attend competitions, and supervise students in various settings
Must pass all school/district background checks
