Position Summary
The High School Esports Head Coach is responsible for developing, leading, and managing the school’s esports program. This includes coaching student players, organizing competitive teams, promoting digital citizenship, and creating a structured, inclusive environment that supports both competitive success and academic achievement.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
Establish and grow a structured esports program aligned with school values
Organize teams, leagues, schedules, and competition participation
Develop short- and long-term goals for program growth and sustainability
Oversee budgeting, equipment needs, and facility use
Coaching & Player Development
Coach students in game strategy, teamwork, communication, and performance
Analyze gameplay and provide constructive feedback for improvement
Support development across multiple titles (as applicable to the school program)
Promote healthy gaming habits, time management, and balance
Student-Athlete (Student Participant) Support
Monitor academic progress and reinforce academic expectations
Foster leadership, accountability, and positive team culture
Ensure an inclusive environment welcoming to students of all backgrounds and skill levels
Teach and model sportsmanship, respect, and responsible online behavior
Technology & Operations
Oversee setup, maintenance, and responsible use of gaming equipment and software
Coordinate with IT staff to ensure network functionality and security
Ensure compliance with school technology policies and digital safety standards
Manage streaming, match recording, or broadcasting if part of the program
Compliance & Safety
Adhere to all school, district, and league rules and eligibility requirements
Promote digital citizenship and online safety
Supervise all team activities, practices, and competitions
Complete required trainings and maintain appropriate certifications
Communication & Community Engagement
Communicate with students, parents, administration, and staff regularly
Promote the esports program through school channels and community outreach
Coordinate team meetings, parent meetings, and recognition events
Build partnerships with local organizations or higher education programs when possible
Qualifications
Experience with competitive gaming or esports (coaching or playing preferred)
Strong understanding of popular esports titles, game mechanics, and team strategy
Ability to teach teamwork, communication, and performance improvement
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Ability to foster a positive and inclusive team environment
Must meet all district and state requirements for coaching positions
Preferred Qualifications
Previous coaching or mentoring experience (esports or traditional activities)
Experience with streaming platforms, shoutcasting, or match analysis
Familiarity with school-based programs or educational environments
CPR/First Aid certification (if required by district)
Work Environment & Expectations
Practices typically held after school; competitions may occur evenings or weekends
Primarily indoor, technology-based environment
Occasional travel for in-person competitions (if applicable)
