Head Wrestling Coach Department: Athletics Reports To: Athletic Director / Site Administration FLSA Status: Stipend / Non-Exempt (Extra Duty Assignment) Season: Winter Sports Season (Exact dates per AIA calendar) Stipend: Per Governing Board-approved stipend schedule Position Overview The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the district's wrestling program. This includes student-athlete development, program organization, compliance with AIA and district policies, and fostering a culture aligned with district values and expectations. The Head Coach is expected to promote sportsmanship, academic accountability, and positive character development. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card NFHS Coaching Certification (or ability to obtain prior to season) CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain) Previous wrestling coaching or competitive experience preferred Knowledge of AIA rules and regulations preferred Core Job Functions Program Leadership & Development Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the wrestling program (varsity and sub-levels if applicable) Develop practice plans, conditioning programs, and competition strategies Promote athlete development in skill, discipline, and sportsmanship Establish clear expectations for athletes and assistant coaches Student Supervision & Safety Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes at all times Supervise students during practices, competitions, travel, and team activities Enforce appropriate conduct and discipline consistent with district policies Monitor athlete eligibility, attendance, and academic progress Compliance & Operations Ensure compliance with AIA regulations, district policies, and eligibility requirements Maintain accurate rosters, physicals, and required documentation Coordinate scheduling, transportation, and game management with the Athletic Director Inventory, maintain, and request equipment and uniforms Communication & Collaboration Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, administration, and staff Represent the district in a professional manner at all times Work collaboratively with other coaches, staff, and site administration Support multi-sport participation and overall athletic program goals Culture & District Alignment Model and reinforce district values (COUGAR Values / Unified in Excellence) Promote a positive team culture focused on respect, accountability, and growth Encourage academic success and responsible citizenship among student-athletes Additional Duties Attend required meetings, trainings, and athletic events Participate in off-season program development as appropriate Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or administration Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate for extended periods Ability to demonstrate wrestling techniques and drills Ability to lift and move equipment (up to ~50 lbs) Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required Working Conditions Indoor gymnasium and wrestling facilities Exposure to high noise levels and physically active environments Seasonal schedule with extended hours during competitions Evaluation Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district coaching expectations, program outcomes, compliance, and alignment with district values.
