Position Title: Varsity Assistant Cheer Coach
Department/Section: Flagstaff High School
Supervisor: Athletic Director
Compensation: Special Service Contract ($2,500.00 per season)
Summary
Coconino High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to serve as the Varsity Head Cheer Coach for the upcoming season. This seasonal position requires a dynamic leader who can inspire and motivate student-athletes while fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong coaching skills, a deep understanding of cheerleading techniques, and a commitment to the development of student-athletes both on and off the mat.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive cheerleading program that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and athletic excellence.
- Plan and conduct daily practices, ensuring that all athletes are engaged and improving their skills.
- Prepare the varsity cheer team for competitive events, including local and regional competitions.
- Collaborate with other coaches, athletic staff, and school administration to support the overall athletic program.
- Organize and supervise team fundraising activities and community outreach events.
- Maintain open communication with athletes, parents, and school officials regarding team expectations, schedules, and performance.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all team members during practices and events.
- Evaluate and provide feedback on individual and team performance to foster continuous improvement.
- Uphold and enforce school policies and regulations related to athletics and extracurricular activities.
Requirements
- Previous coaching experience in cheerleading or a related sport is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cheerleading techniques, choreography, and safety protocols.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred or the willingness to obtain certification before the season begins.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during the season, including games and competitions.
- A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.
- High school diploma or equivalent; further education in sports management, physical education, or a related field is a plus.
- NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, NFHS Concussion in Sport, NFHS Cheer Safety Exam, and NFHS Spirit Rules Course Certificates
- AACCA Safety Certification Course
