Purpose of Position:
The Girls' Swim Coach will oversee the West Girls' Swim Program and instruct the varsity high school swim team. They are responsible for helping each student-athlete gain success by reaching their full potential in the classroom and in the pool.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise the Girls Swim program coaching staff including Assistant/JV/Freshman coaches.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee training of swimmers in conjunction with the other coaches.
Develop training plans for swimmers in conjunction with the other coaches.
Assist in overseeing the running of specific events as needed at home meets as directed by the Director of Athletics.
Contribute to match line-up planning with other coaches.
Attend and coach at all practices.
Attend and coach at all meets.
Assist other coaches in monitoring team members' practice attendance, school attendance, meet attendance and grades
Assist other coaches in enforcing team policies.
Responsible for providing student-athletes feedback about their performance related to their disposition, behavior and team skills.
Manage program budget organize fundraising efforts for the swim program
Coordinate competition and practice schedules with the Director of Athletics and Operations.
Coordinate off-season training for the swim program
Successful completion of the required WIAA Rules Exam for swim by the 2026 fall sports season.
Qualifications:
Competitive playing experience in swim at the high school level.
Previous coaching experience with preference to coaches with prior successful experience as varsity head swim coach.
Demonstrated knowledge of a wide range of contemporary swim systems.
Commitment to year-around personnel skill enhancement and program improvement.
Demonstrated ability to provide positive motivation and development of student-athletes including year-around monitoring of conduct and academic performance.
Demonstrated ability to maintain open communication with coaching staff, student-athletes, parents and age group swim coaches.
Demonstrated knowledge about instructional progressions of swim techniques.
Skill in budgeting and supplemental fundraising. Skill in long-range planning for enhancement and maintenance of equipment inventories.
Ability to coordinate all levels of competition within the swim program.
Demonstrated ability to work with and coach a diverse population.
Successful completion of an approved coach's education course (ASEP) or the ability to complete the course prior to the second season of coaching if no teaching license.
Evidence the candidate is knowledgeable of WIAA eligibility standards and is willing to reinforce good sportsmanship and compliance with athletic codes among team members and members of the swim coaching staff.
Ability to integrate the swim program into the total school experience of the student-athlete.
Preferred: Valid teaching license

WIAA 2026 Fall Sports Season
Working Conditions:
Will be expected to work in evenings and weekends. Will also be expected to work in various outdoor weather conditions.
Physical Requirements:
The job will require you to stand for extended periods of time, while coaching at practices and games.
