Purpose: The coach helps students achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for the values and discipline related to the sport or activity and sportsmanship. The general safety and welfare of each participant shall be the primary concern. The coach provides leadership and coordination in the assigned activity or sport.
Qualifications: Licensed teacher or eligible for Rule 10 approval through the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA). Preference will be given to current licensed employees of the district. First aid, CPR, and AED certification required. Valid driver's license required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversees tryouts and selects participants in accordance with established guidelines
2. Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for achievement in the sport
3. Plans and schedules a regular program of practice
4. Works closely with the Activity Director and/or Assistant Principal in scheduling contests, practices, meets, and competitions
5. Recommends equipment, supplies, and uniforms for purchase
6. Prepares and adheres to approved budget
7. Maintains attendance forms, insurance records, physical forms, and other required paperwork
8. Oversees the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport or activity is conducted and when students are present
9. Establishes performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition for the sport or activity
10. Attends required meetings of the KSHSAA
11. Fulfills test requirements of the KSHSAA
12. Arranges for transportation
13. Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment, uniforms, and supplies
14. Communicates effectively and promotes positive interpersonal relationships
15. Informs students, families, and the community of school policies, activities, eligibility, and team rules. Will compile and distribute a team handbook.
16. Implements policies focused on character education and development of skills important for post-secondary success
17. Ensures compliance with building athletic eligibility policies and works with students on academic progress
18. Works to transition students to college athletic opportunities
19. Distributes and cares for equipment
20. Establishes a sound program of injury prevention
21. Ensures supervision for all contests, meets, and practices
22. Submits budget requests to the building principal
23. Supervises participants after practice, meets, or games until their transportation home is secured
24. Supervises, evaluates, recommends hires and terminations of Assistant Coaches
25. Supports the District’s educational mission for all students and implements all Board regulations and policies in a fair and equitable manner
26. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the superintendent or designee may assign
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
2. Occasionally requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
3. Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend, and/or reach.
4. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
5. Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
6. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
