Duties and Responsibilities: The lead assistant women’s water polo coach is the primary assistant to the head women’s water polo coach. The lead assistant coach will assist with all aspects of the NCAA Division II Women’s Water Polo Program, including student recruitment and development, on-deck coaching, contest scheduling, compliance with NCAA, Conference, and Biola University rules and regulations, student-athlete academic achievement, and other duties assigned by the head coach. Assist in organizing and coaching for all practices and intercollegiate competitions. Teach necessary skills from the basic fundamentals to the techniques and strategies of team play. Assist head coach with game preparation and in-game strategies. Promote and foster a positive team environment, appropriate behavior, and sportsmanship by team members. R espons ible fo r t he conduct of team members both o n a nd off the deck. Promote a nd main tain a n environ ment where t he physical , mental , spiritual , social , a nd academic well-being o f al l student-athletes i s a priority. Recruiting: Assist with evaluating, recruiting, a nd selecting qualified prospects who ar e a f it f or t he u niversity spiritually , academically , a nd athletically. Actively seek a nd encourage a d iverse y et faith-centered group o f prospects. Work collaboratively w ith t he Compliance , S tudent S ervices , a nd Academics s taff t o walk recruits through t he application process. Make recurring contacts b y telephone , w ritten correspondence , o ff-campus visits a nd evaluations , a nd coordinate campus visits a s assigned b y t he Head Coach. Assist w ith overseeing t he academic progress a nd success o f student-athletes including promoting a nd maintaining a n environment t hat encourages academic achievement a s measured b y academic eligibility , retention , a nd graduation. Assist t he Head Coach i n scheduling o f contests a nd opponents , a nd makes arrangements f or t he contests a s assigned b y t he Head Coach. Work w ith t he coaching s taff a nd athletic admin t o plan a nd administer team travel arrangements , including transportation , meals , a nd lodging. Assists t he h ead coach i n scouting opponents , including exchanging a nd analyzing videos. Actively participates i n fundraising , promotional , a nd public relations activities f or t he sports program. Maintain collaborative working relationships w ith administrators a nd coaches i n t he department , institutional s taff members , a nd external constituents. Maintain confidentiality , including , b ut n ot limited t o , information , f iles , a nd records t hat t he incumbent may obtain o r possess u nder f ederal a nd s tate laws a nd Biola University policies a nd practices. Assist i n developing a team calendar featuring devotional speakers. E ffectively seek , organize , coordinate , a nd communicate w ith speakers a s directed b y t he Head Coach. Know , recognize , a nd comply w ith t he laws , policies , rules , a nd regulations governing Biola University a nd i ts employees , a s well a s t he rules o f t he N ational Collegiate Athletic Association a nd i ts affiliated conferences a s n ow constituted o r a s may b e amended i n t he f uture. Immediately notify t he Director o f Athletics o r designee i f y ou h ave reasonable cause t o believe violations , whether b y employees , s tudents , o r others , h ave occurred o r will occur. Perform other duties a s required. Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a n accredited f our-year college o r university. Two (2) y ears o f experience coaching water polo a t t he college o r university level o r a ny equivalent combination o f education a nd/or professional work experience t hat provides t he required education , knowledge , s kills a nd abilities a s indicated. Knowledge o f water polo a s competed a t t he collegiate level. Strong oral a nd written communication a nd presentation s kills. Demonstrated ability t o interpret a nd present information a nd ideas clearly a nd accurately i n writing , verbally a nd b y preparation o f reports a nd other materials. Demonstrated ability t o establish a nd maintain effective working relationships w ith internal a nd external organizations , groups , team leaders a nd members , a nd individuals. Ability t o work outside normally scheduled work hours including day , night , weekend a nd /or holiday hours a s directed. Ability t o travel w ith t he team a s required. Ability t o work w ith a nd effectively mentor y oung c hristian women ; sharing a common f oundation o f Christ-centered f aith a nd looking t o t he Bible a s a source o f knowledge , truth , a nd inspiration.
